SERGIO AGUERO is on the way back to lift misfiring Manchester City after they were held to a shock goal-less draw by bottom club Aston Villa.
Aguero has missed seven games with a torn hamstring but manager Manuel Pellegrini says last season's Golden Boot winner is on course to make a timely return for the home clash with Liverpool after the international break.
City, who lost Wilfried Bony with a hamstring injury early in Sunday's game, missed the presence of a striker as Villa responded to the appointment of new boss Remi Garde by halting a run of seven consecutive Premier League defeats with a battling display.
Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne missed second-half sitters and Fernando hit the bar in added time as City were held to their second 0-0 draw in three League games - after going 60 matches without a goal-less draw.
Pellegrini said: "I hope that this week Sergio, David Silva, Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta will work with the physiotherapist and then next Monday they will start working with the squad.
"We will see in the way he improves this week but I think there is a chance he can be after the international break. You never know if internationals come at the right moment or not but at least now we have some time to recover some important players."
Pellegrini could not conceal his frustration at the result. "I'm disappointed but I have nothing to complain about my team. We played very well for the 90 minutes. They [Villa] didn't have one shot on our goal and we were unlucky with the three or four clear chances we had.
"We tried different ways to score goals but sometimes this happens in football and we couldn't do it. Every team in the season has a day like this."
