Gabriel has suffered another injury setback and will be out for up to four months |
NEWCASTLE UNITED midfielder Gabriel Obertan is facing up to fourth months on the sidelines after re-injuring his hamstring.
The French winger, who previously underwent surgery on the same hamstring after damaging it at the end of September, has been hit by injury again and will miss the Premier League tie against Leicester.
Obertan was expected to return for the Magpies within the next few weeks, but he has been dealt a fresh blow and will be out until at least the end of February.
The 26-year-old started the season promisingly and found himself in Steve McClaren’s first team - with the Magpies boss praising the former Manchester United man.
“It’s a serious concern and a disappointment for him because he felt he was getting an opportunity at the start of the season,” said McClaren.
“We feel for him because it’s a bad injury.”
Obertan’s setback could see £13million summer signing Florian Thauvin be deployed after not having much of a look-in since joining from Marseille.
