HE IS known for playing super muscly Norse god of thunder Thor, however Chris Hemsworth couldn't look more different in his latest Instagram post.
The Hollywood hunk is a long way from his Marvel superhero alter ego, after sticking to a 500-a-day calorie diet for his latest film role.
The 32-year-old looked shockingly gaunt and much slimmer in the topless online snap last night, after shedding the weight for In the Heart of the Sea.
Sporting a very bushy beard and straggly locks, Chris' ribcage was impossible to miss as he made a peace sign at the camera.
"Just tried a new diet/training program called 'Lost At Sea'. Wouldn't recommend it. #IntheHeartoftheSea", the Aussie star captioned his photo.
Chris plays sailor Owen Chase in the Moby Dick-inspired flick, which sees his character stranded at sea for 90 days after a sperm whale destroys his ship.
Speaking about his weight loss, the star revealed: "I spend more time thinking about food than anything else," during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight.
"We have to shoot the really skinny stuff where we drop down to five, six, 700 calories a day, a good three or four weeks and it's going to be pretty uncomfortable, but we'll be together in our misery," he added.
Chris revealed that he first shed the pounds for thriller Black Hat, before losing an extra 15 pounds for the Ron Howard blockbuster.
"When you’re already starting off lean, its brutal to chew through that kind of weight. Every pound feels like a kilogram," he added.
In the Heart of the Sea, which opens in cinemas on December 26, also stars Benjamin Walker, Ben Whishaw and Tom Holland.
