Everton boss Roberto Martinez has ruled out John Stones leaving the club in January
EVERTON have ruled out John Stones leaving the club in January.
 
Manager Roberto Martinez said the England centre-back would not be moving despite continued interest in Stones from the likes of Chelsea. Manchester United and .
and Martinez is adamant the player will not be moving.
“I think from our point of view the window in January will be to try and see if there is anything to help the squad we have in place,” said Martinez.
 
“We don’t look at this window as a window to sell players. It is a matter of continuity.
“January is right in the middle of the season. We are not in a position where we have to make any financial decisions to balance any books. It is about having real continuity.
“We have a block of football before the next international break that is a really important period. We are going to have to be really consistent and solid.
 
“When we are at our best we are not inferior to anyone. We just have to make sure we are at our very best.”
Tom Cleverley is expected to return to the squad for Saturday’s game with Aston Villa after an ankle injury and a late decision will be taken on Leighton Baines, who has effectively been out for six months.
“In training Leighton had one game behind closed doors when he got through 90 minutes,” said Martinez. “Now it is about assessing day by day. I consider Leighton very close. We will make the decision on Friday for this weekend.”
