Confirmed: Manchester United star returns to Rochdale on loan

Manchester United keeper Joel Castro Pereira has re-joined Rochdale on loan

ROCHDALE have re-signed Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira on a second loan spell.

 

The 19-year-old Portugal Under-21 international made one appearance during his recent one-month stint at the League One side. 

And in his only outing he saved a penalty in the 1-0 defeat to Morecambe in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy quarter-final. 

Despite the defeat, Keith Hill heaped praise on the shot-stopper by claiming he will have a bright future at Old Trafford. 

 

"One good thing to come out of the night was Joel's performance and I think he is going to be a top, top goalkeeper," he said to the Manchester Evening News. 

"He has pedigree and what he has been producing in training was better than what we saw against Morecambe.

"His pass range is remarkable, he has composure and a thirst to win, he reads an opponent very well.

 

Rochdale boss Keith Hill insists Pereira has a bright future ahead of him

"He is an exceptional talent and I was always going to play him against Morecambe. 

"I've got no reservations, if called upon, to play him in a league fixture, but obviously Josh Lillis is our number one goalkeeper right now."

Pereira, who is yet to make an appearance for Louis van Gaal’s side, is available for Dale’s trip to Doncaster.
