Piles - known as haemorrhoids - can be avoided with these top tips
SKIPPING the gym and sitting on your bottom this Christmas could lead to an embarrassing case of piles.

Haemorrhoids aren't a topic of conversation many people wish to discuss but it's thought nearly everyone will suffer from them at least once in their life.
Piles can occur at any age - but are more common in older people- and affect both men AND women.

Guess what - a diet full of rich foods and a less active routine are common causes of the embarrassing problem, meaning Christmas can bring on the condition.
Piles, as the ailment is more commonly known, are often the result of prolonged constipation caused by dehydration and a diet lacking in fibre.

Exercise
It is common to spend more time being stagnant in winter, due to the cold weather affecting our desire to venture outside to exercise.
Engaging in a gentle workout at home 2-3 times a week can help to prevent constipation.
Being active also reduces the amount of time spent sitting and putting pressure on the lower rectum. If you enjoy doing weights at the gym just be careful not to strain, as this can increase your chances of getting haemorrhoids.
Eat fibre
Fibre is one of the most natural ways to become more regular. Enjoy the indulgent foods on offer over Christmas but don’t discount fibre enriched foods.
Bran flakes, wholegrain and fruits such as apples and bananas are all good sources.
