Arsene Wenger: Why Calum Chambers can be the player to replace Francis Coquelin
Calum Chambers could be used as a makeshift cover for Francis Coquelin
ARSENE WENGER has outlined the Calum Chambers’ attributes as a defensive midfielder in the wake of injuries to Francis Coquelin and Mikel Arteta.

Coquelin faces at least two months out while Arteta is expected to be out in the short-term after both players picked up injuries in the 2-1 defeat to West Brom.
It leaves Mathieu Flamini as the only fit defensive midfielder at the club although Chambers did play in the position against Southampton on New Year’s Day.

And Wenger has talked up the 20-year-old’s education as a central midfielder in light of the injury problems at the Emirates.
“Calum Chambers has been educated as a central midfielder,” Wenger said.

“He has a big stature, good technique, good vision as well.
“He has played in defensive positions so I think he can develop in the future in a position like defensive midfield.

“It is very important to balance our team, so the defensive role and the efficiency in this position is very important, because we are a team who like to go forward.
“All teams needs a strong, reliable player in every defensive aspect.”
