Steve McClaren is still scarred by Newcastle's 6-1 drubbing by Man City |
Newcastle eventually scored six to register their first victory of the season - the club's biggest win for more than five years - with Georginio Wijnaldum netting four.
And McClaren admitted he had ridden an emotional rollercoaster during an error-strewn first half during which the Canaries twice pegged his side back.
"I couldn't even relax at 4-2, maybe a bit at 5-2 and yes, eventually at 6-2," he said.
McClaren hailed his side's devastating form pouring forward but knows there is still work to do with a defence which creaked badly in the opening hour.
He said: "It was great to see Gigi [Wijnaldum] get his rewards and Moussa Sissoko also showed what he can do. He wants to be a top four player and he will be if he performs like that.
"They were excellent along with Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic though at the back we rode our luck at times."
McClaren was under pressure after a nightmare start to his Newcastle career and admitted a first league win of the campaign will count for nothing if they lose Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby against a Sunderland side now propping up the table.
"I never got too low after losing 6-1 at Manchester City and won't get too high after this," added McClaren.
"But today we showed what we are capable of. At times, we looked devastating. Now we have to sustain it. Football is all about momentum. We've had it the other way, now we want it going forward."
Norwich manager Alec Neil was not too disheartened by the defeat but will consider reining in his side's attacking instincts away from home.
"Offensively, we looked dangerous and scored two good goals but defensively, we were wide open," he said.
"The game was wide open. It could have finished 8-8 but this is a lesson for everyone connected with the club."
