Spurs only lost to Manchester United because of Kyle Walker's unfortunate own goal |
PAUL MERSON claims Tottenham should be top of the Premier League and were unlucky not to get a point at Manchester United earlier in the season.
The former Arsenal star has been impressed by the way seventh-placed Spurs have approached this season, but thinks they have sold themselves a bit short.
Mauricio Pochettino's side only lost at Old Trafford on the opening day thanks to a Kyle Walker own goal but have dropped a number of points after failing to kill teams off.
And Merson thinks their position in the league does not speak for the quality of their performances so far this campaign.
"They should be top of the league," he told Sky Sports. "They went to Old Trafford and they should have got a point. They were 2-0 up against Stoke City, and they threw that away.
"They should have beaten Everton at home and they should have beaten Swansea away.
"You put all those points together, and I think they are in a false position. I've been impressed with Tottenham, and that's coming from me. I think they've been bang unlucky."

Spurs got another point on the weekend at home to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool in the German's first game in charge.
The improvements they have made this term have not gone unnoticed as boss Pochettino was named Manger of the Month for September.
His side are currently eight games unbeaten and just three points off a Champions League spot.
