Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho insists he is experiencing his worst period of his managerial career |
NEWS NEWS BLOG SPORT brings you the latest news and gossip coming out of Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho insists he is in the midst of his worst period of his managerial career, according to the Daily Mail. The defending Premier League champions drew against struggling Newcastle and go into their tie with Southampton today off the back of a 2-1 Champions League defeat to Mourinho's former club Porto. "I define (this) as the worst period of my career, with the worst results in my career," said Mourinho whose side have claimed just two wins from seven games. Meanwhile, the Portuguese manager has told his Chelsea players to face their problems and not hide like 'ostriches'. This comes amid talks of a crisis and suggestions of rifts within the squad, which has not been helped by the Blues' miserable start to the season. "There is an animal that puts its head in the ground... an ostrich," Mourinho told Sky Sports. "In the bad moments, you cannot do that and just wait for a better moment to come, or for the problems to be resolved by themselves."Jamie Redknapp believes John Terry must start for Chelsea against Southampton as pressure mounts on Mourinho. Terry was an unused substitute in the defeat to Porto which lead to the fans chanting 'We want our captain back' as he warmed down, and Redknapp insists he must start against Saints if they are to stop the rot. "When you drop someone like John Terry - who is practically an institution at Chelsea - you have to make sure it works. The players have a lot of respect for him and the fans love him, so if you leave him out of the team you have to keep clean sheets and defend properly," Redknapp outlined in his Sky Sports column. "But don't tell me Chelsea are a better team without Terry - they're not. You only have to look at the goals they've conceded and the manner in which they've conceded them. The performances suggest they function better with his organisation."
