Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson will have to watch England play Lithuania on the TV |
The way things have panned out, with the enforced absences of Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck, the Bournemouth striker could easily have been playing for his country in what would have capped a fairytale rise to international stardom.
Roy Hodgson was seriously considering calling up the prolific front man before a crippling cruciate ligament injury playing against Stoke brought a cruel halt to his soar-away start to life in the Premier League.
Wilson's chances of an England call-up were dashed after suffering an injury against Stoke |
Now Wilson, who scored 23 goals in all competitions last season and had already netted five this term, can only watch from his sofa after being ruled out for at least six months.
With an operation also necessary, that means a dream trip to France with England next summer is now almost certainly out of the question as well.
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe reckons Wilson will bounce back from his injury |
And Wilson’s club manager Eddie Howe remains confident that the 23-year-old will bounce back even better.
He said: “I would love him to go on and make England appearances. His potential is limitless.”
