Arsene Wenger had been under pressure at Arsenal, but wins over Everton and Bayern have helped |
ARSENE WENGER hailed his 'perfect week' - and saluted "top class" man of the match Mesut Ozil as his Gunners went top of the league after defeating Everton on Saturday.
He said: "It has been a perfect week. After such a massive game against Bayern last Tuesday this was a tough game.
"We dominated in the second hald but got a bit exposed towards the end. But we managed to get three massive points.
"I believe that if we keep our solidity and focus we know that when we have the ball we can create chances.
"It is probably just 24 hours at the top of the league, but after that first game against West Ham no one thought we would get this far after 10 games - and neither did I.I honestly thought it would take lmuch longer after Manchester City started with five wins.
"But now let's continue to grow and improve. There are still many aspects in which we can improve.
On Ozil he said: "he was fantastic today, but rather than talking about him I would much rather watch him again.
Giroud, who beat out Walcott to start the game, scored the first goal of the game |
"He is a real ream player not just an individual. Everything he does is for the team. And our results are more the consequence of team effort rather than just one player.
"Now we must keep together with humility and just try to get better."
A disappointed Roberto Martinez, who revealed that England defender Phil Jagielka had suffered a bad knee injury was uncharacteristically critical of Arsenal's Oxlade-Chamberlain for the bad tackle that caused it.
He said: "There is some dame to Jagielka's knee and that is the most negative thing to come out of today. It was an unfortunate collision seeing that the referee had already given a free kick and one which Oxlade-Chamberlain probably didn't need to make."
But he praised his side for coming back from two down saying: "You are measured as team in how you respond and we did that.
"We were well aware of Arsenal's phenomenal win against Bayern Munich and they are a very good football team.
"We lost our concentration after going a goal down , but we created three clear-cut chances afterwards and played our part in a fantastic second half that was end to end."
