Serge Gnabry has struggled to make any impact at West Brom |
ARSENAL will hold talks with West Bromwich Albion over recalling winger Serge Gnabry in light of their midfield injury crisis.
With Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere, and Tomas Rosicky already out, Arsene Wenger lost Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott inside the first 20 minutes as they crashed out of Capital One Cup to Sheffield Wednesday.
Only Liverpool now have an injury list to match Arsenal’s, leaving the Gunners forced to search for alternatives, including Gnabry who is not enjoying much favour out on loan at West Brom.
While Gnabry is highly rated at the Emirates, West Brom manager Tony Pulis has told Arsenal that he will not play the 20-year-old, claiming the player is not prepared for Premier League football.
“Serge has come here to play games, but he just hasn’t been for me, at the moment, at that level to play the games,” Pulis said.
““He’s come from academy football and not played much league football.
“Does academy football really prepare players for league football? And we’re talking about Premier League football here.
Theo Walcott has become the latest Arsenal midfielder to join the injury list |
“As a manager you pick a team that’s going to win a game of football.
“You pick your best team, you don’t leave people out because you don’t like them, because of this, that and the other.”
The German under-21 international has made just three appearances at the Hawthorns since moving there in August.
However, with more midfielders on the treatment table than training pitch at Arsenal, his parent club may require his services sooner than his scheduled return at the end of the season.
