Kalidou Koulibaly turned down a move away from Napoli in the summer

KALIDOU KOULIBALY turned down a transfer in the summer in order to prove himself at Napoli, according to his agent.

 

The Senegal international, who also represented France at youth level, was heavily linked with a move to England in the off season.

Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United were reportedly interested, while Southampton and Norwich also made enquiries into his availability.

But the 24-year-old centre-half opted to remain at Stadio San Paolo to fight for his first-team place and has this term started all but two games.

“Koulibaly is still young,” Bruno Satin explained in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“In the summer there was the possibility of leaving, but the lad chose to stay because he wanted to prove himself at Napoli, which he’s doing.

“The future? There could be offers, but the Neapolitans are capable of giving him an important contract to tie the player down.”
