£36m Man Utd new boy Anthony Martial was on the scrapheap 12 months ago - Monaco boss
Anthony Martial has shone at Manchester United since joining from Monaco for £36m
ANTHONY MARTIAL's career was heading for the scrapheap just 12 months ago, according to Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim.

The Manchester United striker has made an explosive start to life in the Premier League with four goals in his first four games following his £36million arrival just before the transfer window closed.
However, a year ago he seemed to be heading in the opposite direction and one of the first jobs Jardim faced when taking over at Monaco in June 2014 was to get the 18-year-old Martial heading on the right path again after failing to score in the opening two months of the season.

"Anthony is a young, very good player," Jardim said. "Last year he played badly in the beginning of the season and after worked a lot physically and mentally.
"When you work in a club like Monaco with good methods and a good team, it is easy to improve and to go to a big European club."

Now that he is up and running, his former team-mates are not at all surprised at the immediate impact Martial has made.
Club captain Jeremy Toulalan said: "No, it is not a surprise for me. Anthony has got a lot of qualities.

"He is a good man and he will have a lot of success in Manchester.
"For Anthony, to be honest, it was difficult to refuse an offer like this. I am happy for him, that he plays well as Manchester United."
