Romero ready to fight for Man Utd starting spot after De Gea's Real Madrid move collapsed
Sergio Romero is ready to fight for his place at Manchester United
MANCHESTER UNITED new boy Sergio Romero is ready to fight for his starting spot at Old Trafford after David De Gea's move to Real Madrid collapsed at the last second.

United and Real had agreed a player-plus-cash deal that would see De Gea join the Bern side with Keylor Navas coming in the opposite direction.
However, after paperwork failed to be submitted before the deadline in Spain last Monday, the move failed.

And while De Gea is set to stay at the Premier League giants, Romero, who joined Louis van Gaal's side this summer on a free transfer, is still determined to fight for his place.
“Playing for United is a dream and if God helps me this dream will never end,” Romero said.

“As I have been saying: I have to thank Van Gaal for trusting me.
“But let me tell you, I don’t think that the goalkeeper spot in United is already mine.
“I do know that I have a huge support from Van Gaal and his staff.”

The 28-year-old shot-stopper has already kept three clean sheets in the league this term.
He added: “Although I had not done a pre-season, I started playing for the biggest club in the world.
“It’s important for a goalkeeper to have this support. That is because there is no rotation between goalkeepers — a goalkeeper starts or he is benched.
“They are the only two choices — there is not a third one. And Van Gaal has given me his trust.”
