Arsene Wenger didn't buy a single outfield player this summer |
ARSENAL legend Paul Merson believes Arsene Wenger’s players know they will not win the Premier League title this season.
Wenger has come under fire for his spending during the summer transfer window.
Despite landing goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea, the Gunners are the only Premier League side to have not bought an outfield player.
And Emirates legend Merson believes the lack of deals has put immense pressure on the squad.
“It puts severe pressure on the players and whatever they say at Arsenal, I bet those players know they will not win the title this season,” he told the Daily Star.
“Does Arsene Wenger really think you can finish that many points behind Chelsea last season and get past them this time just by buying Petr Cech?
“Fans pay top dollar to watch Arsenal and they are right to be upset. They are spending a fortune and the club isn’t.
“Go and put a bid in of £70m for Karim Benzema and see what happens. They have got the money.
“I don’t see the logic in it at all.”
