Luke Shaw had surgery in Holland after breaking his leg during Manchester United's match against PSV |
MANCHESTER UNITED have confirmed Luke Shaw underwent surgery last night after breaking his leg during their Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven yesterday.
The Manchester United defender suffered a horrific double leg break after a tackle by PSV Eindhoven defender Hector Moreno.
And United have confirmed he had surgery last night and will remain in Eindhoven.
"Luke Shaw underwent surgery on his injury on Tuesday night and will remain in hospital in Eindhoven to continue his early recovery," United said in a statement.
"Manchester United are grateful for the excellent care he is receiving and would like to thank everyone who has sent messages of support.
"A further update will be provided in due course."
The 20-year-old now faces spending the remainder of the season on the sidelines and his place in England's Euro 2016 squad is now in doubt.
United boss Louis van Gaal has criticised the challenge but hopes Shaw will return to action in six months.
He said: "It is awful. The boy is in his second season and he has been playing fantastic.
"And now this happens. He had the oxygen mask on and was crying in the dressing room.
"You must judge the incident for yourself. If I say it was a penalty and a red card then I am a bad loser. It was a very bad tackle."
