Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says the club will not sign David De Gea in January |
NEWS NEWS BLOG SPORT brings you all the latest news from Old Trafford.
Louis van Gaal says Manchester United's £36million signing of Anthony Martial was "ridiculous" - but that it is a present for the next manager.
The Old Trafford boss spoke to season ticket holders at an event at Lancashire CCC's ground.
He said of the deadline day signing: "It was a ridiculous amount of money, but it's the crazy world we are in.
"United are routinely quoted £10m more for a player but I have not bought Martial for me.
"I have bought him for the next manager of Manchester United."
Martial could play a part for United against Liverpool in Saturday's 5.30pm kick off at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal is also expected to start goalkeeper David De Gea, having not fielded the 24-year-old at all this season due to Real Madrid's transfer interest in him.
Madrid's deadline day swoop for De Gea fell through over the failure to process the paperwork on time.
And Real president Florentino Perez has blamed United for the transfer breakdown, claiming they haven't learned their lesson from a similar case when United's loan offer for left-back Fabio Coentrao fell through in 2013.
"We will certainly not sign De Gea in January," the Blancos supremo told Cadena COPE.
"Madrid did its job as best it could. We did not get there on time because Manchester does not have the necessary experience to tackle these things on the last day, as happened last year with Coentrao."
The Times claim United players have rebelled against Van Gaal's rigid regime.
According to the report, many squad members have grown tired of the boss' approach after years of attacking football under Sir Alex Ferguson.
It is claimed players are not enjoying life under the Dutchman, which is why they have got off to a rocky start in the Premier League.
And it has resulted in senior players reportedly making a complaint to the former Netherlands manager.
