Roberto Firminio started his first game for Liverpool against Arsenal last month |
LUIS GARCIA has urged Liverpool fans to stay patient with new signing Roberto Firmino as he settles in to life in the Premier League.
Firmino moved to Anfield from Hoffenheim for £29million earlier in the summer, and made his full debut against Arsenal at the Emirates last month.
The Brazilian international is yet to set the Premier League alight, but Garcia, who won the Champions League during his spell on Merseyside, has called for fans to be patient with the 23-year-old.
The Kop favourite told the Liverpool Echo: “It’s not easy to come into the Premier League and adapt. I think that he’s a very good player but you have to give him time to adapt to the pace of the game, to the players, the different situations in games.
“He’s a player that wants to do things to change games, like Philipe Coutinho does at the moment.”
The Spaniard has been pleased with Liverpool's start to the season, despite the Reds suffering a humiliating 3-0 defeat at home to West Ham, and hopes they can put in a good performance at Old Trafford when the Premier League returns after the international break.
He said: “It’s one of the biggest games of the season. Manchester United have not been 100% so far this season and maybe some of the events of the last few days (De Gea saga) may have affected them a little bit.
"Hopefully Liverpool will be right there, for the three points and for what it means to the supporters with the rivalry."
