Claudio Ranieri's Leicester currently sit third in the Premier League |
LEICESTER manager Claudio Ranieri wants more chance to live up to the 'Tinkerman' tag by naming 11 substitutes.
The Italian, who became famous for team changes during his spell at Chelsea, has called on Premier League bosses to allow 11 possible replacements on each club's team sheet.
Ranieri's plan would still allow three substitutes to be used during a game but would see the number permitted on the bench increase from seven to 11.
"It happens in Serie A, why not England?" he said. "It is a good opportunity for the young players. You would have an opportunity to put the 17-year-olds or 18-year-old on the pitch.
"It is good for him, and it is also good for English football - 11 on the pitch, 11 on the bench. You pay 25 players. If the squad is 25 players, why only 18 go in the squad?"Ranieri could hand £4.8million summer signing Gokhan Inler his first Premier League start at home to Aston Villa tomorrow.
The 31-year-old Switzerland captain impressed in midfield against England on Tuesday and Ranieri said: "I think he is ready to start, but every time I think the night before the match what my first XI will be."
Villa manager Tim Sherwood, however, admits the club probably cocked-up letting Marc Albrighton leave for free.
The 25-year-old was shown the door at Villa Park and has been a major factor in Leicester's unbeaten start to the season.
Albrighton played a key role in helping the Foxes avoid the drop last season and is hoping to come back to haunt Villa tomorrow.
"It is a credit to Marc that he has eventually forced his way into the side on a regular basis," said Sherwood. "He has taken the knock of being released from the club or being disposed of and bounced back.
"That can happen. If we had a crystal ball we would know differently but unfortunately for Villa it looks like it might not have been the correct decision."
