Thibaut Courtois returned from international duty unhurt but suffered the injury in Chelsea training |
CHELSEA are sweating over the fitness of Thibaut Courtois after the goalkeeper suffered a knee injury in training.
The Blues travel to Everton on Saturday (12.45pm kick-off) and are now faced with going into the crunch clash without their No.1 goalkeeper.
Courtois returned unscathed form international duty with Belgium but was hurt in a training session at Cobham on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old previously picked up a knee injury while warming up for their Premier League opener with Swansea but was patched up and sent out to play.
His afternoon was cut short after he was sent off and Asmir Begovic came into deputise.
The Bosnian may well have to do so again in another unexpected outing for the Blues.
However, it is reported the club will do everything they can to ensure the Belgian is fit for the clash.
The news comes after Chelsea were also hit by an injury to Gary Cahill.
While Cahill has played on since breaking his nose against Manchester City last month, the England centre-back might have to play with a face mask for another two months and admits it has impaired his vision.
Chelsea are looking to kick-start their season after a stuttering start to the campaign, which has been underpinned by poor defending.
Manager Jose Mourinho has questioned a number of key players after a rare home loss to Crystal Palace in their last outing but insists they will bounce back.
