A GTA 5 update is on its way but have Rockstar ended their interest in Xbox, PC and PlayStation DLC? |
GTA 5 will soon receive a new update that will bring Online players even more options and it seems Rockstar may be ready to put the issue of the release of a story DLC to bed.
The developer has revealed the lengths that the success of GTA Online has changed how they work, and what knock on effects that this has had for the game.
For a team that has been used to having years to work on one big project, they have suddenly had to adapt to producing content much faster.
In fact, content production is now a constant factor that drives them and is something that they are hoping to continue into the future.
GTA Online has also given Rockstar their first real taste of multiplayer on a huge level, with over 8 million users confirmed to be logging in each week.
The success has also brought forward new ideas for future games and it certainly doesn't sound like they are ready to pack everything in and start on something fresh.
It's probably not even possible right now as Rockstar have also revealed that they have their full team working on GTA Online content, leaving no time for side projects.
Good news for those 8m players signing in each week, the developers have pledged that they will continue putting together new updates for as long as people are playing, meaning that fan power will count for a lot of what is to come.
However, it also spells bad news for those waiting for a Story DLC to be produced.
WARNING: In-game violence shown in trailer below.
It was expected that new adventures for Franklin, Trevor and Michael would be produced and on shelves by now, something that seems less and less likely.
Speaking on the subject of GTA 5's future, Director of Design at Rockstar North Imran Sarwar told IGN: "Right now our focus is on GTA Online which has exceeded our expectations.
"We currently have all key members of the team that launched Grand Theft Auto V focused on supporting GTA Online in every capacity.
"The community we’ve been able to foster is massive, growing each day and we have so many ideas that have yet to make it into the game.
"The evolution of GTA Online on these newer platforms is also an exciting prospect as the power of those systems is going to allow us to achieve even more.
"Every key member of the team that launched Grand Theft Auto V has worked on every aspect of GTA Online, from all content through Heists, and now to these latest updates.
"This comes from our initial approach to GTA Online – we wanted to create an experience that was equal in quality and detail to the efforts we had made in our single player games, and we believed players could have both without sacrificing one over the other.
"GTA Online has proven too interesting and too important to be separate from the main mission of the entire team."
It would be dangerous to assume that this would completely rule out a new DLC pack being produced by Rockstar, indeed, keeping the platform fresh with Online content and then releasing something new next year would bring those who had grown tired with multiplayer, back to the game.
The title itself is impressive enough to avoid looking dated on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for some time, and with Rockstar's canny way of keeping secrets, there is always hope.
