Just two cans of fizzy drink daily increases the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by a quarter |
DRINKING just two cans of fizzy pop a day can lead to huge health risks, a study claims.
Dr Frank Hu at the Harvard School of Public Health, who led the survey, said two daily sugary drinks led to weight gain and obesity, increasing the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by a quarter (26 per cent), of heart attack or fatal heart disease by 35 per cent and the risk of stroke by a sixth (16 per cent).
In the study, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, he called for "public health strategies to reduce consumption of these drinks".
