Destiny update 2.0 is coming today, Bungie has confirmed |
BUNGIE are taking Destiny offline temporarily to make way for the big 2.0 update, the studio has confirmed.
UPDATE ONE: Bungie have revealed a huge list of changes brought into Destiny today.
There are more changes scheduled to take effect with the official launch of Destiny: The Taken King, with the final patch notes set to be published at 10am, UK time on September 15th, 2015.
A lot of changes are tailored towards bringing Destiny into Year Two but also includes technical adjustments from player feedback.
For example, cinematics can now be skipped, while show/hide helmet options now also apply to the Character Screen.
Other fixes include tweaks to the Widow's Court map, where added invisible physics have been brought in to keep players from hiding in the ivy overlooking the courtyard Heavy Ammo.
A new Mercy rule that will end blowout games early have also been added, allowing Shaxx to call out the end of the match, immediately disabling join in progress to prevent any additional players from joining the game (if anyone has dropped already) and reset the game clock to 10 seconds.
After those 10 seconds, Bungie say that the match will end normally, with all players receiving their end of match rewards before returning to matchmaking.
ORIGINAL: Bungie have warned that fans on the Xbox and PlayStation platforms will be kicked from activities and required to download the patch.
The studio has also confirmed that there will be patch notes posted soon, detailing the full changes that are set to brought to Destiny this week.
An earlier post from community manager David Dague, explained: "Update 2.0 is inbound. On September 8th, we’ll all begin to experience much of the Year 2 groundwork.
"It’s filled with changes to the player experience. It also has some surprises in store for every player.
"If you’ve bought Destiny, whether you’ve pre-ordered The Taken King or not, we’re sending you into the Crucible to experience new modes of battle on every brand new map.
"One thing to note: You won’t have the use of your new Super abilities yet. You’ll have to visit your class Vanguard in The Taken King to earn your new subclass. For now, though, you can and should check out the new slate of maps on offer, and two of the new modes.
"The Crucible Preview Event will take place from September 8th to September 14th. Go and get yourself an early taste of some Rift! And follow it up with a heaping helping of Mayhem!"
A new cinematic trailer was released today, detailing some of the key Taken King storyline ahead of its launch later this month.
You can check out the full trailer above, showing the arrival of Oryx, hellbent on revenge, whose has also brought an army of Taken with him.
"Infiltrate his fortress, fight through his army, and Face The Taken King."
