Jose Mourinho has been busy in the transfer market once again |
CHELSEA made headlines in the transfer window again for a number of different reasons.
Beating Manchester United to the signing of Pedro from Barcelona was perhaps the most interesting deal to be done by any club in the transfer window.
By signing the Spain star, Chelsea pulled off a massive coup, however, the decision to allow Petr Cech to join Premier League rivals Arsenal could be a huge risk.
Asmir Begovic looks to be an ample deputy to Thibaut Courtois but it is a risk nonetheless.
The same could be said for Radamel Falcao, who has been given another chance in England after his Old Trafford nightmare.
And their has been a mass exodus of players leaving the club as well.
No fewer than 26 players have left Stamford Bridge on loan - the most recent being the deadline-day signing of Michael Hector, who was bought from Reading and immedaitely sent back to Berkshire.
Best deal: Pedro, £21million
The Spanish World Cup winner has a proven pedigree and has already outlined his credentials with a stunning display on his debut.
Getting one over on United won't hurt either, as their title rivals were left scrambling for new faces right up until the close of the window.
At £21m, the deal could prove a bargain and might give the Blues the cutting edge they have missed in recent years in the Champions League.
Signing Radamel Falcao is a risk but he already has his first Chelsea goal |
Biggest gamble: Radamel Falcao, loan
While the Colombian might only be at Stamford Bridge on a temporary basis, he commands huge wages and Jose Mourinho might look a bit silly if it doesn't work out.
But the Blues boss has a knack of getting the best out of players and the immediate signs are good after he netted his first goal for the club against Crystal Palace last week.
What they missed out on:
Midfield has been an area of concern since the start of the season, with Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas failing to reproduce last season's form.
While a late bid for Paul Pogba was ambitious, the Frenchman would have adressed the issues that have contributed to their poor start this term.
Expect them to go back to Juventus next summer.
