Nemanja Matic believes Chelsea wanted the win more than Arsenal |
NEMANJA MATIC claims Chelsea wanted to win yesterday's London derby at Stamford Bridge more than Arsenal.
The Blues claimed their first home win of the season in a feisty encounter at Stamford Bridge 2-0 thanks to second-half goals from Kurt Zouma and Eden Hazard.
Arsenal finished the game with nine men after Gabriel was sent-off for kicking out at Diego Costa while Santi Cazorla received a second yellow for a late challenge on Cesc Fabregas.
Costa could yet face action from the Football Association after swinging an arm at Laurent Koscielny, which led to the incident with Gabriel and resulted in his red card.
"We wanted to win more than them," Matic told Chelsea TV.
"It was a very important three points for us, especially against them.
"We didn't start the season very well so it was very important to win these two games - Champions League against Maccabi (Tel Aviv) and the derby against Arsenal.
"We didn't concede one goal and we scored six. We have to continue to play like this, especially the next game - it's going to be very important for us."
