Eddie Redmayne will play L Frank Baum in the upcoming Road To Oz, a drama about the early days of the author who would go on to write The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz and its many sequels.

Judy Garland famously stared in the iconic 1939 film based on the original books by Baum.
The Road to Oz is being developed by Finding Neverland producer Nellie Bellflower and Michael Mislove.
The film will explore the years that lead up to Baum becoming a prolific and beloved author. Finding Neverland followed a similar pattern with Johnny Depp as Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie, opposite Kate Winslet.

The new project marks a remarkable double-whammy for its unstoppable lead actor.
Eddie Redmayne is currently preparing for his high-profile role playing another author, fictional this time, in the forthcoming Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.
The eagerly-anticipated story of the wizard Newt Scamander is set 70 years prior to the Harry Potter books and is being written by J.K. Rowling, herself.

Although Road to Oz deals with a similarly fantastical world, it is rooted in the real-life story of the author L Frank Baum.
Redmayne has a spectacular track record in biopics, having won a Best Actor Oscar earlier this year for playing Stephen Hawking in 2014’s The Theory Of Everything.
He is also looking set for further awards glory with his portrayal of pioneering transsexual artist Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl, which is due later this year.
The highly-sought actor will be needing some magic tricks of his own pretty soon, to manage his increasingly packed diary.
