Wayne Rooney is desperate to take three points from Tottenham in the opening game of the season |
MANCHESTER UNITED skipper Wayne Rooney believes it is vital to secure an opening-day victory over Tottenham on Saturday.
United host Spurs at Old Trafford as they look to kick off their campaign with three points.
"We want to perform well but it's vital that we get three points."
But goal records are not on Rooney's mind as securing points is a priority for the striker.
"Tottenham are a team I have done well against over the years and scored goals," he told MUTV.
"I hope that can continue on Saturday but the most important thing is getting three points.
"For me, I'd say the three points are more important than the performance on Saturday.
