| Tottenham want Real Madrid outcast Asier Illarramendi |
TOTTENHAM have entered the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi.
That is according to the Guardian, who claim Spurs are keen to land a commanding defensive midfielder before the summer window shuts.
The Spaniard, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool, has dropped behind Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic and Toni Kroos in the pecking order at Real.
Reports in Spain claim the 25-year-old is keen to fight for his first-team place, but boss Rafa Benitez considers Illarramendi surplus to requirements.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino also has Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama, 24, on his shortlist.
