Calum Chambers had a difficult evening against Christian Benteke |
HECTOR BELLERIN has defended team-mates Gabriel and Calum Chambers after the pair were criticised following Arsenal's 0-0 draw against Liverpool.
The central backs formed a makeshift Gunners defence after regular duo - Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny - were ruled out of the match due to illness and a back injury respectively.
Chambers in particular, who was making his first start since 21 March, had a difficult evening against Christian Benteke in the first half making a series of mistakes.
But right-back Bellerin has praised his defensive colleagues for remaining strong and keeping a clean sheet.
"I think they had a good game, the fact that we are going home with a clean sheet says a lot," he said.
"It is difficult to be thrown into a game like this when you haven’t had a lot of game time. I think they did really well, them and the whole team.
"There were some times when we had trouble getting the ball out from the back, but I think we dealt very well with their front three.
"They had a lot of power up front and the fact we are going home with a clean sheet says a lot."
