Sunderland 1 - Swansea 1: Defoe rescues point for struggling Black Cats
Bafetimbi Gomis had previously opened the scoring for Swansea
JERMAIN DEFOE helped Sunderland to their first point of the season as the Black Cats held Swansea to a draw at the Stadium of Light.

Dick Advocaat's side also had Costel Pantillimon to thank for a great save from Bafetimbi Gomis late on.
Defoe was the real spark for the hosts, though, but the visitors might have been out of sight before his equaliser.

Jermain Defoe equalised for Sunderland to earn a share of the points
They started positively and Gomis opened the scoring just before half-time with a neat finish into the bottom corner.
And when Jonjo Shlevey delivered for Andre Ayew the Ghanian could have doubled the lead early in the second half but hit the post with a firm header.

Speculation about Defoe's future has been rife this week, but Advocaat will want to keep him around after this strike from the edge of the area in the 62nd minute stole a share of the points.
Sunderland remain rooted to the bottom of the table but a point will give some cause for optimism.
Meanwhile, Swansea stay sixth.
