THE damage from a fake brace trend sweeping through Asia is palpable in the images going viral.
Pictures of people partaking in DIY orthodontic treatment have re-emerged on the web today, show the true extent of the damage to their teeth.
The price of dentistry can be expensive, but there's no comparison and doing it yourself is never advised.
But orthodontics is a whole new ball game that should involve x-rays, specialist advice and regular check-ups - which is why the DIY braces sweeping Asia are so dangerous.
It's said teens and adults alike are fixing brackets to their own teeth, pulling the wire through and trying to straighten their tegs without professional help.

Not only is this foolish, but it could result in the complete loss of all the teeth if they're moved too suddenly, too far and too fast.
Non-medical braces are supposedly the 'in thing' in places like the Philippines and South East Asia and are causing no end of problems.
From sores to tooth decay, even lead poisoning from the bogus wire people are inserting into their own mouths - the list of issues is never ending.
The pictures come just weeks after NewsNewBlog.blogspot.com reported Charlotte Bateman's shocking story about her VAMPIRE teeth.
The problem escalated so much the Philippine Dental Association released a note to the public urging them not to do their own orthodontic work.
It read: "It is of high probability that self-installation of the co-called do-it-yourself products will lead to potential injury to the user in the absence of professional supervision."
They then asked, in the interest of 'public safety' people report any unauthorised or illegal dentistry.
Shari Daniels, an internationally recognised Specialist in Orthodontics at The Orthodontic Surgery, urged anyone thinking of having orthodontic treatment to consult a specialist before undergoing treatment.
