ROBERTO MARTINEZ has confirmed Everton have been in contact with Shakhtar Donetsk over a move for Bernard.
The Toffees were reportedly keen on the Brazilian after a deal for Dyanmo Kiev winger Andriy Yarmolenko failed to materialise.
The Ukranian is said to be a target for Barcelona and Everton would have had to bid in the region of £15million to secure his services.
Instead, it seems Martinez has turned his attention to Bernard, who he acted coy over when questioned about by reporters.
He said: "I'm sure that [Bernard] has got a few representatives in the UK. I can't go into detail."
The news comes amid reports that John Stones has handed in a transfer request to leave the club, with Chelsea pushing hard for his signature.
Express Sport understands the Blues will launch a bid in the region of £40m to secure the England international.
