NEWCASTLE have withdrawn their interest in QPR striker Charlie Austin.

The Magpies had sought to bring Austin back to the Premier League after his relegation with Rangers last season.
But manager Steve McClaren has backed away after learning of the London club's £15million asking price for their star man, claim the Newcastle Chronicle.

Austin, 26, scored 18 goals in the Premier League last season but it wasn't enough to prevent QPR from going down.
But Newcastle won't countenance spending £15m on a striker who is into the last year of his contract and who could agree a free transfer to St James' Park in January.

Whether or not Austin will still be on QPR's books by then remains to be seen.
He has been closely trailed this summer by a host of top-flight clubs, including West Ham and Chelsea.

New Hammers boss Slaven Bilic is yet to sign a striker this summer and Austin has been earmarked as a man to partner Diafra Sakho.
But West Ham face the challenge of Chelsea, who are reportedly considering an offer for the Englishman as manager Jose Mourinho seeks additional recruits before deadline day.
