Nicolas Otamendi set to join Manchester City |
MANCHESTER CITY are set to sign Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi for as little as £8m.
Valencia and City have agreed a £31m valuation for Otamendi but because the Spanish club still owe £24m for striker Alvaro Negredo, City are expected to pay only the difference.
Argentina international Otamendi's agent Jorge Mendes has been in Manchester this week to broker the deal and the player is set to sign a four-year contract, pending a medical.
He will become City's fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph and Patrick Roberts.
Meanwhile, Fernandinho has branded Chelsea striker Diego Costa a trouble maker who is always looking to wind up the opponents.
Costa had to be restrained by Chelsea team-mates at half-time of City's 3-0 win on Sunday after trying to confront Fernandinho as the players went down the tunnel.
Fernandinho had received a caution after infuriating Costa in an aerial challenge when his elbow left Costa with a gashed head that required a bandage.
But he insists the clash was an accident and says Costa's reaction was unnecessary but typical of a player who has gained a reputation as a bad boy.
"He is always trying to offend the opposition," said Fernandinho, "but I keep calm and keep playing.
"I just didn't want to fight or have any confrontation and just to play for my team.
"It was an accident and the nature of the game. It was a shock and I received a yellow card. It happens in football."
