Jesus Navas arrived at Manchester City in 2013 from Sevilla for £15million |
JESUS NAVAS is prepared to fight for his place if Kevin De Bruyne arrives at Manchester City before the transfer window closes.
Despite his bright start to the season, Navas appears to be the player most under threat if City can end a summer-long pursuit by thrashing out a deal with Wolfsburg to make De Bruyne their latest big money signing.
But Spain winger Navas insists he will relish the competition from Belgium international De Bruyne.
He said: "Everyone wants to be in the starting XI and the competition does not just keep me sharp - everyone in the whole squad has to perform to a high standard.
"I feel I am a really important player within the squad and my duty now is to keep working hard to keep my place in the team.
"I am very focused and working really hard in training every day. This is the way I want to do things this season."
The De Bruyne saga looks as if it could go right to deadline day with City's £50m offer falling £8m short of Wolfsburg's valuation. Former Chelsea player De Bruyne, 23, is understood to want to join City but is refusing to rock the boat by asking for a move.
City's highly-rated young centre-back Jason Denayer, who will be allowed to go out on loan following the signing of Nicolas Otasmendi, is weighing up season-long moves to Galatasaray and Marseille. Denayer wants a regular place to help him secure a place in Belgium's squad should they qualify for next summer's Euro 2016 finals.
