KEVIN DE BRUYNE underwent his medical in readiness for a club record £54 million move while his new employers Manchester City made it the perfect 10.
The Belgium international is set to be unveiled as City’s latest stellar signing although manager Manuel Pellegrini refused to be drawn on the issue in the immediate aftermath of his side’s 2-0 win over Watford.
He insisted his concentration had solely been on the game – one which saw City make it 10 top flight wins on the trot, overhauling a record set in 1912.
De Bruyne flew into Manchester this morning and was whisked away by officials to undergo the medical.
Pellegrini insisted: “I don’t speak about rumours. I don’t know if he is signing.”
Well Manuel he is – and it takes your summer spending past the £150 million mark.
It means that Raheem Sterling’s £49 million move – a record fee for cash rich City – has been shortlived.
It will also be a flying visit for ex Chelsea man De Bruyne who is due on international duty next week with his Belgium team-mates.
Pellegrini though was determined to stonewall all questions on the club’s record signing. “I will only talk about what I want to talk about not what you want,” he snapped.
“Not until someone has told me he has signed his contract.
“No I don’t know he was in Manchester. I have been concentrating on the game.”
