Romelu Lukaku has urged his team-mate John Stones to stay at Everton and become a "top player" |
ROMELU LUKAKU believes John Stones should reject Chelsea and Manchester United by committing his future to Everton.
Stones has been the subject of several bids from Stamford Bridge - the last of around £30million - and is understood to be unsettled at the club.
Every bid so far has been knocked back and the club insist he will not be sold, while Manchester United have also been linked with a move.
And the Everton hitman and former Chelsea striker has urged the 21-year-old to concentrate on staying at Everton.
"To be fair John is in a good situation at a good club which believes in him," he said.
"He is playing and is learning a lot from Phil Jagielka.
"He's been here two years now but this is the year where he really needs to confirm he is the top player he can be.
"This club has massive potential, with the players we have and the ambition the manager has. He is in a good place. He's on to a good thing."
Lukaku left Stamford Bridge for Everton last summer following three frustrating years in west London.
After signing from Anderlecht for around £10million in 2011 he knows just how difficult it can be to make it at the club.
He was farmed out on loan to West Brom in 2012 and failed to nail down a spot in the Chelsea first-team on his return.
Another loan move, this time to Merseyside, saw the Belgian rekindle the sort of form that prompted Chelsea into a move in the first place and he made the switch permanent after the Toffees shelled out £28million.
And Chelsea may have to pay significantly more than that if they want to secure his team-mate.
