Charlie Austin has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs but remains at QPR for now |
The Magpies announced the signing of Florian Thauvin from Marseille on a five-year deal on Wednesday with Remy Cabella going in the opposite direction on a year-long loan.
Newcastle have been linked with Charlie Austin this summer along with the likes of Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Tottenham, West Ham and champions Chelsea.
Bookies have also recently slashed the odds on Man United making a move for the striker.
But McClaren's latest comments suggest Newcastle have pulled out of the race to sign the QPR forward.
"I'm very pleased with what we have got, very pleased,” said McClaren. “I think that's it for now - but how many times have you heard, 'That's it for now' with 10 days to go of the window?
"We are not expecting, we are not chasing anything. We are not trying to make things happen. Usually with 10 days to go, things might happen.
"But at the moment, we are delighted with what we have got and let's get to work with them. That's the key thing now: they're in, let's get them working and let's get them playing."
Newcastle travel to Old Trafford on Saturday (12.45) to take on Louis Van Gaal's Manchester United hoping to end their unbeaten start to the campaign.
