Katherine reveals her beauty tips: Sleep, a good facialist and hydration |
MR SELFRIDGE actress Katherine Kelly, 35, shares her beauty tips.
Which beauty products do you swear by?
I love the Sarah Chapman Skinesis range. It has totally transformed my skin. I’ve also recently discovered the Aromachologie collection by L’Occitane – the Rebalancing Massage Cream soothes my legs after a long day on set. And I never leave home without L’Occitane Shea Butter hand cream in my bag.
What are your essential cosmetics?
I wear so much make-up on set, I try to give my skin a break on my days off. I love Youngblood Foundation, though. It is so light you don’t feel like you are wearing anything at all.
Do you have any top beauty tips?
Sleep, a good facialist and hydration. I go to Sarah Chapman’s clinic in London for facials.
How do you stay in shape?
These days, chasing after my daughter [one-year-old Orla] or pushing a pram round the park.
Do you diet?
I don’t talk about diets. There is too much pressure on people – especially young people – these days. There is so much more to life than what you weigh.
If you could change one part of your body, what would it be?
Name me a person who doesn’t want to change something about their body at some stage. For me, it all depends on what day of the month you ask. But it’s about perspective. These aren’t real problems. I’m healthy and that is what really matters.
Would you ever consider plastic surgery?
I don’t know. I’m in my mid-thirties and I’d like to think I’d grow old gracefully. But who’s to say how I’ll feel in 10 or 20 years’ time? I believe in choice for everyone.
Which other women do you think are beautiful?
There are lots of beautiful women in the public eye, but I find vanity very unattractive. Angelina Jolie is a beauty but she doesn’t seem to be wrapped up in herself. Her mind is on bigger things, like doing what she can for people in need. Also, Davina McCall doesn’t come across as narcissistic. She’s beautiful but more interested in being a fun person to be around.
How do you pamper yourself?
Pampering, for me, is anything that doesn’t require me to use words or brain power. If I can truly switch off, I consider it pampering.
How would you describe your style?
I have clothes that work for different occasions. I’ll wear something smart for business meetings then most days I’m fairly casual when I’m being a mum and a wife.
Do you have a favourite shop/designer?
Selfridges. I love their collection and the fact it’s a one-stop shop. I love Peter Pilotto and, high-street wise, The Kooples, Jaeger and G-Star Raw for jeans.
What is the most you’ve ever spent on an item of clothing?
A Collette Dinnigan dress. But I love it more than my wedding dress!
Have you had any fashion disasters?
When I was in Coronation Street I had such bleached blonde hair and bad fake tan, I looked a mess no matter what I put on. And I learned the hard way that just because you are given something free for a red carpet event, it doesn’t mean it’s nice.
