Benik Afobe was unable to breakthrough at Arsenal |
ASTON VILLA boss Tim Sherwood is eyeing taking his spending past £50 million with a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers hit man Benik Afobe.
Afobe, 22, who joined Wolves from Arsenal for £2million in January was the joint leading scorer in the country last season with 32 goals.
And England’s under 21 international has put himself on the radar of Premier League clubs after scoring against Blackburn Rovers and Newport County.
Sherwood who lost Christian Benteke to Liverpool still wants to make additions to his squad before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
He is keen on taking Afobe who still has three years left to run on the contract that he signed when leaving The Gunners at the turn of the year.
Wolves boss Kenny Jackett is keen for Afobe to stay with the Championship side and will do his best to turn down any offers that are received.
While West Ham United are another Premier League club who are keen to bolster their strike force before the window closes for business until January.
They too have been looking at Afobe who hails from nearby Leyton and who failed to make an appearance during his five seasons at the Emirates Stadium.
