NEWS NEWS BLOG SPORT brings you the latest transfer news from the Emirates.
Fresh from Arsene Wenger's first ever victory over Jose Mourinho the Gunners have been sent some bad news.
But today the former Liverpool boss tried to defuse the situation. He said: "He will stay with us, I can't see any reason why he would leave. "We are very happy with him."
But one Real Madrid player who could be on his way to Arsenal is Denis Cheryshev. The 24-year-old Russia international, who spent last year on loan at Villarreal, has been cleared to join the Gunners, according to the Metro. It is reported that Cheryshev is valued at just under £15million and could become Wenger's second summer signing. Gonzalo Higuain has turned down a new deal at Napoli, according to his agent. The Argentina striker has been linked with a move away from Serie A after failing to qualify for the Champions League. "We had a meeting with the President [Aurelio De Laurentiis] in Venice 10 days ago," he told Radio Crc. "We talked about everything. He offered a one-year contract extension, however, in my opinion - and in our opinion - we'll continue with the original contract, expiring in 2018. "I don't think we'll accept the president's offer, because the contract isn't that different to the one we signed before, so for us it's not a real offer. "We're calm and happy to continue with the current conditions. "At the moment, we have faith, Gonzalo will stay at Napoli, in a team which is 100 per cent focused and can win something. "It seems strange, but the big clubs have not contacted me, nor have I spoken with anyone." Arsenal's new 17-year-old French youngster admits he was worried about joining such a huge club. The prodigy joined from AC Arles-Avignon this week. He said: “That is what made me a little scared at the beginning, but when I saw the condition of the training centre, I realised that there isn’t a better place for me to progress. "It is up to me to prove myself, they gave me a five-year contract so they must have confidence in me.”
Karim Benzema is staying at Real Madrid according to Rafa Benitez.
The France striker has been linked with a move to the Emirates and sent the internet spiralling last week when he posted an image which hinted at a new beginning.
Benzema put a picture on Instagram of him on a plane, with the caption: "Let us leave the past in the past".
And although that picture was seemingly an old one the links remained.
