PAUL MERSON believes Arsenal cannot rely on Francis Coquelin and wants the club to sign Barcelona's Sergio Busquets.
The Arsenal legend claims they need a proven midfielder if they are to challenge on all fronts this season and does not see the young Frenchman as that man.
After a successful loan spell at Charlton in the last campaign, the 24-year-old returned to the Emirates and became one of Arsene Wenger's key players.
But Merson has urged Wenger to spend big so they can challenge for the Premier League title and the Champions League.
The Gunners have been linked with a £24million bid for the 27-year-old Barca star and their former attacker wants it to happen.
"Arsenal will not win the title with just Coquelin in the defensive midfield role," he said.
"They’re talking about them putting in a bid for Busquets – that would be a massive signing.
"Arsenal need an experienced player, especially when you get to the latter stages of the Champions League.
"You’ve got to remember that Coquelin was on loan last season at Charlton Athletic – now he’s on Arsenal’s team sheet."
