WITH August just round the corner, a new batch of films and TV shows will be dropping on Netflix imminently.
 
To save you from scrolling endlessly through the list of programmes we've picked out the highlights, so that you can get on with watching.

 
TV shows
Vexed Season 1 & 2  - 01/08/2015
For something a bit light try this comedy-drama police procedural starring Toby Stephens, Lucy Punch and Rory Kinnear.
The series follows detective duo DI Kate Bishop and DI Jack Armstrong as the classic crime-fighting odd couple. While Kate is diligent, Jack is lazy leading to much hilarity as they try to crack cases.
 
Utopia: Season 1 - 01/08/2015
The Channel 4 thriller may have been cancelled but it made for pretty compulsive viewing.
The show followed a group of strangers united by the mysterious graphic novel known as The Utopia Experiments that have supposedly predicted all the natural disasters of the last century.

The group are trying to unlock the secret message hidden inside the novel but they are being pursued by a shadowy organisation known as The Network. 
Be warned, the violence in this show is not for the faint-hearted but if you can stomach it then it's worth the payoff.

Gotham: Season 1 - 02/08/2015
This Batman prequel is far lighter than the Dark Knight trilogy by Christopher Nolan. Instead it harks more towards its camper comic book roots and is a perfect guilty pleasure. 
The show stars Jada Pinkett Smith as gangster Fish Mooney and The OC's Ben McKenzie as young James Gordon before he became commissioner. 
But the one to look out for is Robin Lord Taylor as a young Oswald Cobblepot before he was The Penguin, who gives a mesmerisingly creepy performance.

Films 
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies -  20/08/2015
Indulge yourself in the epic Hobbit trilogy as Bilbo and Gandalf embark on a journey for gold and a battle with a dragon.
Expect all the sweeping shots of New Zealand from the Peter Jackson film and some excellent performances from Martin Freeman, Sir Ian McKellan et al.
 
Sleeping with the Enemy 12/08/2015
The classic Nineties thriller stars Julia Roberts as a wife escaping from her abusive husband to start a new life.
Despite seeing to escape him, it's not long before he finds her and the pursuit continues.

Horror film The Babadook
 
The Babadook Horror 16/08/2015
You might want to sleep with the light on after watching this psychological horror. 
The film follows a mother and son terrorised by a mysterious creature known as the Babadook, who lives in their basement and comes out at night.

How to Sell a Banksy - 15/08/2015
If you perchance happened to stumble across an original Banksy piece, this factual film shows what you could potentially do with it.
The documentary raises ethical questions about ownership and authenticity in a comic caper manner.
 
World's Fattest Man - 01/08/2015
The tragic tale of Ricky Naputi who weighed close to 65 stones and was dubbed the world's fattest man.
In this 45-minute documentary viewers are shown the last few months of his life as he make a last-bid attempt to save his own life through weight loss.
