WATFORD striker Troy Deeney says he understands John Terry’s decision to confirm he will leave Chelsea this summer.
Terry, 35, revealed last weekend that he has not been offered a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
The former England captain will exit the club at the end of his contract, with Chelsea reportedly unhappy that he revealed the news.
Centre-back Terry is expected to line up against Deeney tonight when his Chelsea side travel to Watford (7.45pm).
And the forward, who boasts seven goals for the season, is wary of the threat a resurgent Blues bring to Vicarage Road.
“Everyone will have seen John Terry’s comments in the last few days,” Deeney wrote in his programme notes.
“I can see why he’s done that maybe take the pressure off himself a bit and steer a few questions elsewhere.
“Our job is to make the most of any uncertainty in the opposition, however that comes around.
“We’ve got to create pressure on Chelsea again, like we did at Stamford Bridge once we got a foothold in the match.”
Deeney scored in the Hornets’ 2-2 draw at Chelsea on Boxing Day and warned his side must match the Blues’ physical presence if they are earn any points tonight.
“They’re all big lads, the Chelsea boys, with a lot of quality amongst them,” he adds.
“To have any kind of success in the game, you’ve got to match whatever they’ve got and then make the most of your opportunities to create chances and pressure.”
