MOTOROLA claims its new smartphone – the Moto X Force – has an indestructible display, so naturally we did our very best to crack it.

Motorola has thrown down the gauntlet to other flagship smartphone manufacturers

If your smartphone has a cracked display, you should probably think about upgrading to a Moto X Force.
It seems like smartphone manufacturers have mastered every other display innovation – Quad HD resolution, glasses-free 3D or pressure sensitive displays – expect how to stop it shattering into pieces when you miss your pocket.
The Moto X Force hopes to solve that issue thanks to its ShatterShield display design.
Motorola told Express.co.uk that its floor-resistant screen is guaranteed to survive a slip through your fingers, or drop from the kitchen table.

Moto ShatterShield is built from five separate layers designed to absorb the shock of the fall.
A coated protective lens sits on the outside of the five sandwiched layers, followed by a uncrackable interior lens.
Next Motorola has included a dual-touch layer, which includes a backup multi-touch screen which can take over and register your fingerprints should the primary touch-sensitive layer smash in a fall.
Finally, the Moto ShatterShield technology includes an AMOLED display and a solid aluminium chassis for strength.

Motorola's Shattershield display technology packs five different layers to stop the screen cracking

Motorola is so confident in its ShatterShield design that it guarantees the smartphone against cracks and shatters for four years after you buy the handset.
And after our tests – we don't expect Motorola will have to replace many Moto X Force smartphones under that guarantee.
It's unbreakable.
NewsNewsBlog.blogspot.com started by testing the Moto X Force with a series of real-world drop tests, simulating dropping the smartphone while putting it in our jeans pocket, or dropping it from ear-height while taking a phone call.
The Moto X Force showed no signs of cracking.
So we upped the ante a little bit, started kicking it down a short flight of concrete stairs, or dropping it with a little more force.
And the Moto X Force showed no signs of cracking.
So then we started dropping the £499 smartphone from over 20ft onto a concrete walkway, jumped on it, stamped on it, dragged it along metal railings and threw it into the air (and watched it fall).
And the Moto X Force showed no signs of cracking.

It's surprisingly difficult to damage this phenomenal £499 smartphone

The case showed signs of the abuse, but the screen was as good as new

Incredibly – no matter what we did to this formidable flagship phone we simply could not break the display.
Other parts of the Force didn't fair as well as the ShatterShield display. The plastic case suffered some severe damage and camera lens splintered – rendering the rear shooter utterly useless.
But it's difficult to complain about the buffs, scratches and chips on the case given the sheer brutality of our tests.
When you're not trying to obliterate the 5.4 inch display, you'll find a lot to like about the Moto X Force.
There's an excellent AMOLED Quad HD display which is bright, pin-sharp and packed with vibrant colour. And there's plenty of other decent features tucked inside the Moto X Force.
Motorola has included a fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, high capacity two-day battery with fast TurboPower charging. Oh, and it has a water repellent nano-coating, too.
The smartphone ships with stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop – and should be getting the Marshmallow update very soon.

No matter what we threw at the formidable flagship, or what we threw it at – we could not break it

The Moto X Force has a brilliant 21MP rear camera with fast focus and dual LED flash (when it's not broken by a fall).
Admittedly, the Moto X Force might not be the best looking smartphone on the block, but it might just be the mightiest.
We had assumed it would cope with some tumbles to the floor, but were left agog by what it managed to survive – even a 20-foot drop couldn't smash it!

This has left us begging the question – why can't more £500 smartphones cope with a knock?
If Motorola can guarantee its customers won't suffer a cracked screen – why can't ever other manufacturer?
The Lenovo firm has thrown down the gauntlet with this staggering smartphone.
If you have a set of butter fingers, buying the Moto X Force is guaranteed to end the misery of a smashed smartphone and could save you a heap of cash in repair bills.
