SWANSEA and Sunderland are reportedly preparing a remarkable swap deal involving Jermain Defoe and Befetimbi Gomis.
Black Cats boss Sam Allardyce has laughed off suggestions of a possible January exit for Defoe, who joined Sunderland last January as part of a swap deal with American striker Jozy Altidore who went to MLS club Toronto FC.
But the Sunderland Echo report that fellow Premier League strugglers Swansea are interested in the former Tottenham hit man, who's also been linked with move to Bournemouth on the South coast.
And the Welsh club would be happy to allow Gomis to move in the opposite direction, if they could prize Defoe away from the Stadium of Light.
Swansea boss Alan Curtis admitted the Swans were desperate to add a striker in January and they are linked with a move for their former star, Wilfried Bony, who's unsettled at Manchester City.
Defoe, 33, has scored nine goals in 17 matches for Sunderland this season but the Blacks Cats once again find themselves in deep trouble.
They're 19th and four points from safety with Swansea just hovering above the relegation zone in 17th.
The pair meet in a relegation six-pointer on Wednesday at the Liberty Stadium with the futures of their front lines the subject of much speculation.
Sunderland are close to agreeing a loan deal for ex-Hull striker Dame N'Doye from Turkish club Trabzonspor.
N'Doye scored five goals for Hull in the Premier League last season but he's failed to score in Turkey after a £2.2million summer move.
