RAHEEM STERLING has played down the fact that his former club Liverpool stand in the way of his first major medal in football.
“It'll be in my home city and playing in finals is something I've wanted to do since I was a little kid. Nothing is going to stop me from doing that.
"It's a good feeling. That's what I've come to this football club - to get in as many finals as I can. I'm really happy to get to my first one with City and hopefully we can go on and win it.”
Sterling admitted City had got lucky with their second goal in the 3-1 semi-final second leg win over Everton last night.
Replays showing he had run the ball out of play after going past John Stones before cutting it back for Kevin De Bruyne to score.
But he said they were due some good fortune after several refereeing decisions go against them in recent games, including a clear penalty when he was felled by Stones in the recent goal-less draw in the League between the two teams at the Etihad.
He added: "Was the ball out? That has nothing to do with me. I was just playing my game. We got the luck, a break. But we haven't had it in the last few games. I'm just happy to get the good luck this time because the last few times we haven't. It's taken us to Wembley and that's the most important thing."
The England international admitted was not too impressed by the explosions that greeted the name of each player as it was read out on the stadium public address system before kick-off.
"The atmosphere was quite something....when they named all the players and there were fireworks going off, I kept jumping up and down. They weren't the best idea for me. Maybe if they'd warned me I'd have been more prepared. But it was a good atmosphere and I'm happy to be through.”
