MANCHESTER UNITED may have to fend off Bayern Munich if they want to land Sadio Mane, according to reports.
Louis van Gaal is currently compiling a shortlist of strikers, as he only has two recognised forwards on his books in Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial.
United tracked Southampton star Mane in the summer and were believed to be prepared to pay in excess of £20million for his signature.
Van Gaal hasn’t hidden his desire to add a forward to his ranks, but Mane might be tough to nail down.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Bayern Munich have set their sights on the Senegal international.
With Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery both sidelined this season through injuries, Pep Guardiola has earmarked Mane as a prime target.
However, United and Bayern might find an obstacle in Ronald Koeman, who insists Mane won’t be sold.
“Rumours aren't important: we will sell nobody,” Koeman said last month.
“You can ask again about Sadio, Man United, Chelsea, but we will sell nobody in January.”
